Mask protection Q&A
1. Can face coverings prevent the spread of the virus?
The primary benefit of covering your nose and mouth is that you protect others. While there is still much to be learned about the novel coronavirus, it appears that many people who are infected are shedding the virus – through coughs, sneezes and other respiratory droplets – for 48 hours before they start feeling sick. And others who have the virus – up to 25%, may never feel symptoms but may still play a role in transmitting it.
That's why wearing a mask even if you don't feel sick can be a good idea.
2. If I'm wearing a mask and someone sneezes on me, would the mask offer some protection?
Yes. But only if you use the mask properly and don't touch it with your hands afterward.
3. What are your fabric face masks made of?
Our fabric face masks are made of 100% cotton standard 100 by OEKO TEX certificate.
4. Would a scarf work?
Probably not as well as a mask that fits closely to your face. "You can imagine if you put a loosely knit scarf with lots of holes in it ... that would not be very effective".
5. Why did we choose 100% cotton fabric?
As they are being worn on a daily basis for protection, we understand the need for comfort and breathability when it comes to face masks. Cotton is easy to maintain and lasts longer. It is also a breathable fabric and hypoallergenic; beneficial for those with sensitive skin.
6. Do your masks offer the level of protection as surgical masks do?
Unfortunately, they do not. N95 Masks still offer the best protection against foreign particles. However, there is new evidence to support the assertion that fabric masks do offer some protection. The primary benefit of covering your nose and mouth is that you protect the people around you when you talk, sneeze or cough. You can increase the effectiveness of your fabric mask by adding a disposable filter in the pocket layer.
In addition, by using fabric masks, we are ensuring that there are adequate surgical grade masks available for the people who need it more - frontline medical staff, who face COVID-19 patients every day. These fabric masks are great if you need to be on public transport, or running a short errand at the supermarket.
7. How often do I need to wash it?
It needs to be washed after each use. So if you're wearing a cloth mask, put it into the laundry basket immediately.
